*On September 9, 1939, David O. Selznick, his wife Irene Mayer Selznick, investor Jock Whitney and film editor Hal Kern drove to Riverside with a preliminary, unifinished print of "Gone With the Wind" to preview it before an audience. They arrived at the Fox Theater and explained to the manager that they had selected his theater for the first public preview screening of the film.
The preview was a brilliant success. When the film ended there was a huge ovation, and in the preview cards filled out after the screening, most of the audience begged that the film not be cut shorter. Many suggested that instead, they eliminate any newsreels, shorts and a B-movie feature.
Relive the moment, August 6 at 7 p.m., when Gone With the Wind is presented to a Riverside audience once more, in the theater where it all began!!!!!!!
