Happy 99th birthday to Olivia de Havilland. Olivia is now the oldest living academy award recipient, (see update at the end) having received her last Oscar in 1950, 65 years ago, for her role as Catherine Sloper in the Heiress. It was a role that she sought for herself and she was only permitted to seek it after winning artistic freedom in a landmark lawsuit against Warner Brothers that resulted in the de Havilland decision. Today, her films, her work, and her very presence on earth continue to endure and inspire new generations of fans. Olivia, your fans and the classic film community throughout the world join together in wishing you a happy, warm, and delightful 99th birthday!
